On March 13th and 14th both the boy’s and
girl’s basketball teams traveled to Haynes City to compete in the
State Tournament. Both teams earned a place in the playoffs with
their final records being: 11 wins/3 losses-boys and 8 wins/2
losses-girls!
Although the boys suffered a disappointing 2 game loss they played
with enthusiasm and never showed signs of giving up. Coach Jonathan
Blikstad has much to be thanked for as the boys represented our
county with good sportsmanship and great attitudes! Off the court
the boys enjoyed time together as well as the opportunity of getting
to know other players from various teams. Bill and Becky Van Helden
went home with an exuberant son, Billy, who was given the team’s
Most Valuable Player award for the games played at the Tournament.
Way to go Billy!
The highlight of the games came when the coveted Christian Character
Award was given to LCHSSA Girls Ambassadors!! Thanks goes to Coach
Shara Nielsen for instructing the girls in more than just good
basketball. Her own daughter, Kiersten, was given the team’s Most
Valuable Player trophy and gave a stellar performance during all
three games. Nicely done Kiersten!
