ATTENTION:  High School Students

The SAT and ACT exams are vitally important if you are in pursuit of college scholarships.   They are also a requirement of some "private" homeschool umbrella schools.   The Bright Futures Scholarships (even the vocational scholarship) require them as well.   Start taking them as soon as you complete Algebra 1 and no later than the last semester of 11th grade - so that you can improve on your scores.... the ACT and SAT Scores count your "highest score" in each category, not according to the test date  (however, some scholarships look at the best test date scoring).

*Home-educated students (those who are registered with the county) have special requirements (including a higher SAT/ACT score and two year registration with county superintendent for the Bright Futures FL Medallion Scholarship), so be sure to read the info thoroughly.

Home-educated school code is:   #101661 for Florida Home Education Foundation

SAT and ACT test exams for 2009-10 are:

There are also opportunities for "standby testing" on day of exam.   You may also order the answer sheet to your test, for a fee.  This may aid in improving your score on the next exam.

If your student has a learning disability (ie: dyslexia or slow reading, etc), contact your local public high school guidance counselor's office to find out what to do so that the SAT can be read aloud to the student during private SAT testing.   One of our area students did this during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years, and surprisingly scored quite high on the SAT exam when done this way...  Read more at:    http://www.collegeboard.com/ssd/student/index.html
or ACT at:   http://www.actstudent.org/regist/index.html

The PSAT (pre-SAT) exam is given on a Saturday or Wednesday mid October each year.  The cost is usually about $15 (includes administration cost) to be held at local high schools.

National Merit and/or National Achievement Scholarships may be awarded based on the 11th grader's test results.
some colleges give full scholarships to National Merit award winners.... ie:  Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA...

SUBJECT TESTS are offered with the SAT, and this is becoming important for homeschooling students for "proof" of proficiency of those courses in relation to certain scholarships.   Check out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT_Subject_Tests
    for tests offered.

Don't forget about CLEP exams ... Earn college credit in various courses, by taking the CLEP exam at the local community college.  This will also help you to keep your Bright Futures Scholarship, so go ahead and get a head start!!  For example, if you've done well with Algebra II, go ahead and take the Algebra CLEP exam now while it is fresh in your mind...  same for U.S. History to 1877 or US History 1965 to present... or Biology or Chemistry... or Spanish, etc....  Why, there is even a practice CLEP exam book (with answers) you can use for preparation... Available at campus bookstores and the library, or through www.collegeboard.org
CLEP, P.O. Box 6600, Princeton, NJ 085410-6600  (609-771-7865
or email:   CLEP@ets.org    ~$30 for practice exam book
